1st Scale Meeting

Introduction

The 1st SCALE LSR Meeting was conducted as part of Sohail University’s initiative to strengthen its student-centric academic quality framework. The meeting was organized under the Student Council for Academic & Learning Enhancement (SCALE), which aligns with the PSG 2023 data-driven quality system. The session emphasized the philosophy that “Quality is not an act, it is a habit,” highlighting the importance of continuous improvement in academic and learning processes.

Purpose of the Meeting

The primary purpose of the meeting was to introduce the SCALE framework and to orient students regarding its objectives, structure, and working mechanism. The meeting aimed to prepare students for their role as Lead Student Representatives (LSRs) in voicing academic and learning-related concerns and supporting structured feedback for quality enhancement.

Overview of SCALE

During the meeting, students were briefed on the concept of SCALE (Student Council for Academic & Learning Enhancement) as a student-centric initiative designed to improve academic quality through active student involvement. It was explained that SCALE consists of Lead Student Representatives from all departments, whose roles are defined in accordance with the PREE and RIPE documents and focus on strengthening teaching and learning processes.

Structure of SCALE and LSR Representation

The structure of SCALE was explained, highlighting that each department nominates one to five Lead Student Representatives, depending on the number of academic programs. These student representatives serve as a liaison between students and SCALE, representing collective academic and learning-related concerns. It was emphasized that LSRs do not hold executive or disciplinary authority and function solely as feedback facilitators.

Eligibility Criteria for LSRs

The eligibility criteria for Lead Student Representatives were shared with the student participants. Eligible students must be currently enrolled as regular students in their respective departments, maintain good academic standing and conduct, possess effective communication skills, and demonstrate commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and impartiality.

Roles and Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities of SCALE and LSRs were explained in detail. SCALE coordinates and guides student representatives, consolidates departmental feedback, ensures structured submission of student input to QEC/IQC, and facilitates student participation in quality-related initiatives. LSRs act as the primary liaison between students and SCALE, collect feedback related to teaching and learning effectiveness, academic tutorials, advising, and other learning experiences.

The meeting was attended exclusively by students from various departments of the university who were nominated or interested in serving as Lead Student Representatives. A total of 14 student participants were present, demonstrating strong student engagement and interest in
contributing to academic quality enhancement.

Outcome of the Meeting

The meeting successfully enhanced students’ understanding of the SCALE initiative and their role in academic quality improvement. Participants gained clarity regarding their responsibilities as LSRs and the importance of structured feedback, ethical conduct, and collaboration with quality assurance bodies.

Conclusion

The 1st SCALE LSR Meeting served as a significant step toward strengthening student involvement in academic quality assurance at Sohail University. By empowering students with knowledge of SCALE and their representative roles, the meeting laid the foundation for effective student-driven feedback and continuous academic improvement.
