PERIDOT Research Program Call for Research Proposals Phase-11
The deadline to apply is October 1,2024
PERIDOT is the Franco-Pakistani Hubert Curien Partnership (PHC) Program providing opportunities to Pakistani and French researchers to interact for joint research activities. The program is implemented in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and in France, jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Development (MAEDI) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESRI).
Priority Thematic Areas:
- Sustainable Energy, Environment and Climate change
- Agriculture, Food Security and Health
- Entrepreneurship, Humanities & Social Sciences
Note: Projects on social challenges of environmental issues shall be strongly encouraged
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant (PI) must be a regular faculty member (PhD or FCPS/MCPS/FRCS) of the Higher Education Institutions (public and private) or hold a contract equivalent to the length of project duration
- The major cost of the main research project will be borne by the participating universities from Pakistan and France.
- The program will support only mobility of the researchers to and from Pakistan.
- Mobility of young researchers, especially doctoral students (enrolled under supervision by the PI) is one of the key objectives.
- The host institution must guarantee having the needed capacities (e.g. working space) to accommodate the visiting fellows
- Project life can be maximum for 03 years.
Note: Maximum one research project can be submitted by one principal investigator for funding

Introduction
The NRPU grant awards will be made to the host higher education institution of the lead academic – faculty – associated with the project and administered through the appropriate ORIC on campus. Principal Investigator should be a faculty member at higher education institution in Pakistan and encouraged to submit proposals that are collaborative in scope, with teams including junior and senior academic staff, both male and female researchers and appropriate sectoral/ industrial collaborators.
1.Eligibility Criteria
- Be a faculty member (PhD or FCPS/MCPS/FRCS) working on regular/ contract basis (contract duration must not be less than project duration) in the Higher Education Institutions (public or private) of Pakistan

NRPU Research Grant Award (2022)
Activation of Spermidine/Spermine N1-Acetyltransferase-1 (SSAT-1) as a Biomarker in Breast and Lung Cancer
In 2022, Sohail University won its highest-ever research funding of Rs. 7,078,050 through the National Research Program for Universities (NRPU), funded by the Higher Education Commission. The grant supported one research project led by Prof Dr Rubina Ghani, with co-investigators Prof Dr Shaista Emad.
The project, with a duration of 36–60 months, focuses on evaluating SSAT-1 as a potential biomarker for the detection and management of breast and lung cancer. This achievement reflects Sohail University’s commitment to advancing research and innovation in healthcare and cancer diagnostics.
Sindh HEC International Conference/Symposium Grant (FY 2024–25)
Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Basic and Clinical Sciences: Challenges and Opportunities
Under the International Conference/Symposium Grant (FY 2024–25), Sohail University won the Sindh Higher Education Commission fundings to support the organize an international symposium titled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Basic and Clinical Sciences: Challenges and Opportunities.” The symposium explored the transformative impact of AI on research, education, and healthcare by bringing together researchers, academicians, clinicians, and industry experts. The initiative promoted interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and critical discussions on the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating AI into basic and clinical sciences.
Sindh HEC International Conference/Symposium Grant (FY 2025–26)
Sustainable Resource Utilization: Building Entrepreneurial Pathways for Pakistan’s Future
Under its International Conference/Symposium Grant Scheme (FY 2025–26), ORIC Department of Sohail University won the Sindh Higher Education Commission fundings of PKR 1,428,800 to organize the symposium “Sustainable Resource Utilization: Building Entrepreneurial Pathways for Pakistan’s Future.” The initiative promoted research excellence, sustainable development, innovation, and entrepreneurship by bringing together academics, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The symposium helped to strengthen the academia–industry linkages and contributed to addressing Pakistan’s future economic and environmental challenges.
